Never visited Littlehampton before but now I have been I cannot fail to go back again and again. Some of the views and scenes are a gift for any artist. I spent some time sketching and other times taking photographs to work from.
This painting was from a night time scene, it was very still, the lights in the yacht club house dominated the sky line. It was so quite, it was a defining experience.
I really enjoyed painting this. I was tutoring a class on Friday at Ardleigh House in Hornchurch. I was teaching them how to paint reflections in water and also how to use the edge of an artist’s trading card to paint masts for boats, on dry paper and wet on wet. They were really impressed with this technique as it takes a lot of work out of an exercise in repetition of shape.
